Although Cuba is the most stunning location for a wedding, it can also be challenging due to the embargo and supplies that may not be available. There is always a ‘Cuba factor’ to navigate and that is why having Kerry Ribchester, the director of Key2Cuba, and her team managing the details - her nineteen years experience in Cuba is essential.
Sally and Geoff wished to have an Afro-Cuban blessing on the beach in Havana, by a priest of the Afro-Cuban religion. Dressed in a long red chiffon dress she stood alongside the priest and groom and received a blessing from the Orishas against the turquoise sea. Each guest carried fruit into the waves as an offering to the goddess of the sea Yemaya and Olokun. There was Afro-Cuban drumming and singing, a beach party with professional dancers sweeping the guests off their feet, and catering by a local chef. The party continued at the beach with a 9 piece Salsa band and the bride changed into shorts and joined in by playing the bass with the groom on the guitar.
Sue and Matt stood barefoot on a moonlit beach with the waves crashing behind them and the Sierra Maestro mountains in the background. Inside a heart made of shells and flowers in the sand, they looked into each other eyes whilst their guests spoke of their wishes for the couples’ future.
Poems of love and marriage were read by Kerry leading the ceremony, and then they held each others hands and said their vows, wishes and dreams to each other. Champagne hidden in a boat was cracked, the 5 piece Son band came out of hiding to serenade them, and then they had a wedding breakfast in the hotel. This was at an all-inclusive hotel in Santiago.
Romantic & Relaxed
Classic Cuban
Sarah & Ozzie had an elegant, traditional Cuban wedding. The bride spent a sleepless night before the wedding in Al Capone’s favourite bedroom, and was driven to the wedding in a red and white Cadillac, sitting as is tradition in Cuba, on the back of the car, with the horn playing the wedding march all through the streets of Old Havana.
They signed papers in the registry office, sipped cocktails in the gardens, and had the reception at a restaurant by the sea with views overlooking the Havana skyline. As is tradition in Cuba, the groom put cake on his brides’ nose, so the bride put cake on his whole face, and everyone joined in. A rumba party followed with live music from Clave Guagaunco and the bride and groom led the dancing with a traditional Yambu dance.
Authentic Vintage Cuban
Wendy and Orlando celebrated with a Vintage style wedding. The separate Stag night and Hen night began in live music bars in Old Havana and then collided at Casa de la Musica, the worlds’ no1 Salsa Club where our dancers kept everyone on their toes. The wedding day ensued with a convoy of classic cars, a photo shoot in Old Havana and the wedding breakfast took place on an exotic islands made of shells in Havana (where Obama recently dined).
